Curro Durbanville u/13 Sevens Rugby Team Spread Cancer Awareness

By Dries Badenhorst – Only real men wear pink. Curro Durbanville’s u/13 sevens rugby team has set out to assist CANSA in their efforts to create awareness of Cancer. Kitted in their spectacular pink rugby gear, kindly sponsored by CDF Security, they took the field for the first time during this year’s regional trails.

CANSA has endorsed this project. They have undertaken to support the boys in various projects during 2016 to spread information regarding cancer. The theme for 2016 will be aimed at early detection education.

South Africa is ranked 50th on the World Cancer Research Fund’s list of countries with the highest cancer prevalence rates. Prostate cancer is the number one cancer diagnosed amongst South African men followed by lung, oesophagus, colon/rectum and bladder cancer. Amongst women, the most prevalent is breast cancer followed by cervical, uterus, colorectal and oesophageal cancer.

Through their endorsement CANSA will also publish Curro Durbanville’s news and activities on their extensive publishing platforms with the hope that more schools will follow this initiative to assist them in the important work that they do.
