By Dries Badenhorst – Vaughan Visagie, a learner at Curro Durbanville Independent School, scored his maiden 50 this past Monday. He achieved this feat in a u/10 cricket match between Curro and Fanie Theron. Curro won the game with more than 90 runs.
Vaughan has been playing cricket since he was 5. His brother, Tiaan Visagie (he represented WP at u/12 level in 2015) has had a huge influence on his cricket. There is not a day that goes by that Tiaan and Vaughan don’t play cricket in the park. When Vaughan was 8 he was discovered by the late Cliffie Adams.
Cliffie gave him an opportunity of a lifetime when he made sure that Vaughan played cricket matches every Saturday. The little 8 year old boy had to play for the u/11’s. These games gave Vaughan invaluable experience and gave his cricket a boost from a young age.
Henco Bornmann, Head of Cricket at Curro Durbanville, took Vaughan under his wing 4 years ago. Under his mentorship “Vaughannie”, as he is passionately referred to by his peers, is continually improving as a player – both in batting and bowling.
Vaughan was a member of the Curro u/13B touring squad to Mossel Bay, this past holiday.
This young man is a talented prospect to keep an eye on in the future.
